1.      Set goals and plans

To do anything, you must first set your goals and plans for achieving those goals. Is it your goal to advance in your career? Or are you just searching for a new challenge to apply in your travels? Whatever it is, create a goal for yourself and stick to it.

You must also create time for it and plan how to incorporate your learning objectives into your daily life. This can be as simple as setting aside 5-10 minutes per day to practice a simple English exercise. Sticking to your goal equals less procrastination and greater learning progress.

2.      Find an appropriate tool

Just like how we all have our likes and dislikes, as well as different perspectives on life, we also have different ways of learning efficiently. Determine your learning style and the best approach for you. Audio learners and visual learners are the two more common types of learners. Learning English will be simple and enjoyable as soon as you find the proper technique and tools!

3.      Stay committed

Learning is a time-consuming and dedication-required process. Only you have power over what you do when you do it, and how you do it. You can’t expect to learn much if you keep saying “I’ll do it tomorrow.” Instead, take control of your learning by starting slowly every day and making those brief sessions an everyday habit. You will see the wonders consistency and commitment does for your learning progress

4.      Use a variety of resources

Make use of the learning resources that are readily available to you, especially since a significant chunk of the internet is in English. Aside from the lessons you’re presently taking, expose yourself to more English by using a variety of resources. Books, movies, songs, podcasts, and TV series, among other things, are all widely accessible online. Through its more realistic setting, these resources play a significant role in helping you grasp the context and meaning behind certain phrases and words. Don’t be concerned if you don’t understand everything the first time; after all, isn’t that the point of learning?  You can see some beginner books that you can read if you are picking up English in our article here.

5.      Try to imitate

It is common to have an accent when speaking a language that is not your native tongue, and only a few people are able to sound native in the language they are learning. However, it is still beneficial to try to listen to and imitate native speakers. This works particularly well with videos, as you can observe their mouth positions during different syllables and words. Try to also imitate various vocal expressions, such as anger, sadness, or happiness, if the speaker is furious, sad, or joyful. Find out more on how to sound like a native speaker in our other article here.

6.      Use the language while you are learning English (practice and practice)

I know it’s easier said than done, but even native speakers make mistakes! Don’t let this discourage you. Mistakes are what drive success in anything you do, and making mistakes is often the best way to learn. The best language learners take risks with it and strive to express themselves even when they don’t have the correct words or grammar. Don’t be frightened; always utilize English, even if you don’t know what to say. Use simple terms to help you overcome these challenges and continue to improve yourself after you’ve made mistakes.

7.      Use the language for something you enjoy

Learning a new language is similar to the expression, “If you love what you do, you’ll never have to work a day in your life.” You’ll never feel tired from learning a language if you utilize it for something you enjoy or incorporate it into something you enjoy doing. Try to do your hobbies in English, whether they are travel, sports, music, fashion, art, or even reading the news. Slowly, you will be able to open yourself up to a plethora of new opportunities in language learning, all while enjoying what appears to be a frightening process.

8.      Develop the four language skills simultaneously

However, make a point of focusing on all aspects of a language’s skills: listening, speaking, reading, and writing. This will boost your confidence in using English in everyday situations. If you only know how to write and read, as some traditional teaching techniques emphasize, you will lack confidence while speaking English or listening to others speak since you lack the other skills in English communication.
