Hoang Mai Star Inter-Level School has partnered with ELSA to integrate artificial intelligence (AI) technology into its IELTS teaching and preparation program. Through this collaboration, students can independently practice and improve their language skills, boost their confidence in English communication across various situations, and achieve breakthrough results in their IELTS scores.

As part of its pioneering digital transformation strategy, Hoang Mai Star School has partnered with ELSA to promote the adoption of technology in its English teaching and learning program. . The collaboration featured:
- AI-Powered Learning: Digitalize lessons and English speaking tests.
- Customized Assessment: IELTS prep tests measured key metrics in Speaking skill (pronunciation, fluency, vocabulary, etc.) and predicted IELTS score.
- Immersive Role-Play Practice: Build confidence in communication by practicing role-play in any scenario.
- Progress Tracking: Teachers have access to a comprehensive dashboard to monitor and track learning progress over time.

In an interview with ELSA, Ms. Pham Bich Nga – Chairperson of the Board and General Director of Hoang Mai Star School – shared her thoughts: “At Hoang Mai Star School, we place a strong focus on the English subject. IELTS has become one of the subjects in the school’s curriculum. We decided to partner with ELSA to help the students practice their speaking skills. After 3 months, the students have shown significant improvement in their scores”.
ELSA has achieved positive results within 3-month implementation:
- High engagement with 99% of students have practiced with ELSA.
- Weekly engagement rate of 74%.
- 79% of students have significant improvement in EPS score.
- 84.400+ lessons completed with nearly 2.500 hours practiced.
- Saving teachers nearly 5 hours per day on average through automatic grading, tracking and data export.

Regarding the challenges in learning English, Luu Yen Ngoc, an 11th-grade student at Hoang Mai Star School, shared that she feels her speaking skills haven’t become fluent yet, and her vocabulary isn’t broad enough to communicate smoothly.
Dinh Tran Gia Thai – a 10th grade student at Hoang Mai Star School shared that: “For me, Listening is the easiest skill because I regularly practice through videos and audio lessons. However, speaking is more challenging as I sometimes struggle to express my ideas in English”.

Commenting on the application of ELSA’s AI technology in teaching and IELTS test preparation, Ms. Trieu Thu Hang, Vice Principal, in charge of the English program for High School at Hoang Mai Star School, shared that: “Teachers can effectively manage their classrooms through the Teacher’s Dashboard feature. We’re able to collaborate with our English teachers to create IELTS Speaking tests and assessments, ensuring students practice consistently each week. Students can receive their results along with feedback to help them identify areas for improvement”.

According to Ms. Phan Thi Mai Linh, an IELTS teacher at Hoang Mai Star School, she typically spends 10 to 15 minutes to grade each student’s speaking video. As a result, the total time needed to assess an entire class can reach nearly 5 hours per day. With the comprehensive ELSA Dashboard, she can now save both time and effort, and be able to focus on developing lesson content and engaging activities for her students.

Sharing her thoughts on the effectiveness of the ELSA Dashboard, Ms. Nguyễn Kiều Trinh – an IELTS teacher at Hoang Mai Star School said: “The ELSA Dashboard has been incredibly helpful for assigning homework, designing learning paths, managing completed work, and tracking student performance on ELSA apps”.

After using ELSA for a while, Luu Yen Ngoc shared that she feels more confident in communication because speaking with AI removes her nervousness, and she has seen improvement in her Speaking band score. For Dinh Tran Gia Thai, he shared that he finds it convenient to practice using the mobile app, as it allows him to study anytime and anywhere.

As for Hoang Ngoc Ha, she shared that: “Personally, ELSA has helped me in many ways, especially in improving my speaking skills, which is its main focus. I can now speak more clearly and carefully. My grammar skill has also improved, and the app has helped me with other skills like recognizing word stress. Plus, it’s been a great help in other English exams”.
