Tổng quan kiến thức thì quá khứ đơn 

Thì quá khứ đơn (Simple Past) được dùng để diễn tả hành động đã xảy ra và kết thúc hoàn toàn trong quá khứ.

Ví dụ:

• My little sister bought a barbie doll. (Em gái tôi đã mua một con búp bê barbie.)
• He went to the zoo last week. (Anh ấy đã đến sở thú vào tuần trước.)

1. Cách dùng thì quá khứ đơn trong tiếng Anh

Cách dùng	Ví dụ
Diễn tả hành động đã xảy ra và chấm dứt hoàn toàn trong quá khứ.	I bought a bag yesterday. –> Tôi đã mua một cái túi vào hôm qua.
Diễn tả một loạt các hành động xảy ra liên tiếp trong quá khứ	I went to the company, then I joined a meeting. –> Tôi đã đến công ty và sau đó tham dự một cuộc họp.
Diễn tả hành động lặp đi lặp lại và đã kết thúc trong quá khứ.	I usually visited museums when I was a child.  –> Tôi thường đi tham quan viện bảo tàng khi tôi còn nhỏ.
Diễn tả 1 hành động chen ngang 1 hành động khác đang xảy ra trong quá khứ	Alex was baking cookies when I came back home. –> Alex đang nướng bánh khi tôi trở về nhà.
Sử dụng trong câu điều kiện loại II → If + Quá khứ đơn, would + V	If I were you, I would buy it. –> Nếu tôi là bạn, tôi sẽ mua nó.
Sử dụng trong câu ước không có thật (câu ước loại 2) → S + wish (that)+ S + V2/ed	I wish my mother was here now. –> Tôi ước mẹ tôi đang ở đây bây giờ.
Sử dụng để mô tả sự kiện mang tính lịch sử.	Alexander Graham Bell invented the telephone. –> Alexander Graham Bell đã phát minh ra điện thoại.
Dùng trong một số cấu trúc khác:  → It’s + (high) time + S + V(ed)  → It is + khoảng thời gian + since + thì quá khứ	1. It’s time I started to look for new opportunities. → Đã đến lúc tôi bắt đầu tìm kiếm những cơ hội mới rồi. 2. It has been three months since Daniel sold his house. → Đã ba tháng kể từ khi Daniel bán căn nhà của anh ấy.

2. Dấu hiệu nhận biết thì quá khứ đơn

Dấu hiệu	Ví dụ
Trong câu có các trạng từ: → Yesterday, last week, last year, last month, ago, the day before, in the past	I woke up at 9 o’clock yesterday. –> Hôm qua tôi thức dậy lúc 9 giờ.
Khoảng thời gian trong ngày: → This evening, this morning, today	She visited her grandmother this morning. –> Cô ấy đã đến thăm bà nội vào sáng nay.
Trong các cấu trúc: –> As if, as though, it’s time, if only, wish	I wish I didn’t cry. –>Tôi ước rằng mình đã không khóc.

3. Công thức (cấu trúc) thì quá khứ đơn

	Động từ To be	Động từ thường
Câu khẳng định	S + was/ were + ……	S + V-ed
Ví dụ	She was in Hanoi last week. → Cô ấy đã ở Hà Nội vào tuần trước.	He played soccer yesterday. → Anh ấy đã chơi bóng đá vào ngày hôm qua.
Câu phủ định (-)	S + was/ were + not + ……	S + did not + V
Ví dụ	She wasn’t in Hanoi last week. → Cô ấy đã không ở Hà Nội vào tuần trước.	He didn’t play soccer yesterday. → Anh ấy không chơi bóng đá vào hôm qua.
Câu nghi vấn (?)	Was/ Were+ S + V?	Did + S + V?
Ví dụ	Was she in Hanoi last week? → Cô ấy đã ở Hà Nội tuần trước đúng không?	Did he play soccer yesterday? → Anh ấy đã chơi bóng đá hôm qua đúng không?
Wh-question	Wh + was/ were + S + V-inf + …?	Wh+ did + S + V-inf + ….?
Ví dụ	Why was she in Hanoi last week? → Vì sao cô ấy ở Hà Nội tuần trước?	Where did he play soccer yesterday? → Hôm qua anh ấy đã chơi bóng đá ở đâu?
